This child’s desk and chair set from Lipper International offers just such a space. Designed for toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary school-age children, the desk and its matching ladder-back chair are crafted in sturdy beech wood, with an attractive, child-safe pecan finish. The desktop features a chalkboard work surface, great for a child to practice writing the alphabet and numbers, or for chalk drawing. Slightly tilted for the optimum chalkboard angle, children also can use the chalkboard as an ordinary desktop for pen and paper work. A slender groove runs along the top of the desk to hold chalk, pens, or pencils. Chalk must be purchased separately from the desk set. For storing crayons, coloring books, and other supplies, the chalkboard desktop lifts up to reveal the desk’s storage compartment. A recessed finger hold prevents the desktop from slamming shut on small fingers.
Made in Thailand, the desk and chair require basic home assembly; necessary hardware accompanies the set. The set best suits indoor use. To clean, wipe the furniture down with a soft damp cloth, using a mild soap on marks; dry immediately to prevent water damage. Avoid using non-washable markers and paints to preserve the furniture’s veneer. Assembled, the desk measures 25-1/2 inches wide by 16 inches deep by 26 inches high, while the chair measures 11-3/4 inches wide by 13 inches deep by 23-1/2 inches high.
